Speaker 1:Here's the secret to getting hard things done in life. There is no secret, but there are frameworks that can help you along the way. At the time of the release of this episode, ideally I'll have just completed a 150 mile ultra marathon, raising money for families that have a loved one battling cancer. And running 150 miles or any distance beyond the standard marathon length of 26.2 miles is incredibly difficult and mentally, physically, emotionally challenging, and when I wrote down the goal this year to run 150 miles and do the same thing that I did last year for four families that have someone battling cancer I questioned myself a little bit, like what the heck are you thinking? But here's the thing I'm confident that come the release of this episode, which is going to be Monday, the 28th, I will still be here. Definitely going to be hurting. Here's how to get it done, bringing back my winner framework. This is the time of year that people start thinking about goals in 2025 and how to get stuff done or why they didn't get stuff done in 2024. Write down what you want to accomplish in this life, make sure a group of people know about it and then build a system around it, build habits that align to that goal, because our goals and really this journey we're on, it's not a process of achieving outcomes. It's a process of becoming. Who must you become in order to run 100 miles? Who must you become in order to launch your podcast? Who must you become in order to jump out of the corporate world and into the entrepreneurship world? This is a process of becoming, and my winner framework is what I use and what I would tell anybody who is either starting their journey or who has been on the personal development and goal setting journey for a while. Start writing everything down, build a system around it. The rest will be covered in the episode.
Speaker 1:And the biggest thing, guys one of the biggest things, rather, is focus on the stories and the language that you are utilizing, but focus on the stories that you are telling yourself. Don't create false narratives in your head that, oh, you can't run 150 miles, or you can't run a marathon, or you can't launch a podcast, or you can't jump 150 miles, or you can't run a marathon, or you can't launch a podcast, or you can't jump out of corporate because this, this and that. Every time you say you can't, you are right. And it's not because you're factually right, it's because you're telling your mind and body that you can't do something. Therefore, your subconscious will not believe you can do it. You have all of the tools that you need to succeed right now. Follow the winner framework and win today.
Speaker 1:The famous philosopher Plato once said that the first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself. Now for the philosophy, people. That can be interpreted in many different ways. I actually used this when I was speaking at a company recently, opening up my talk, and it's not something that I typically will throw in, but you know, the universe works sometimes where you're thinking of someone or a certain thing and or even, hey, what's one new thing I can add into my speech? And then boom, it pops up, or what's one new thing I can do differently? And boom, it seems like it's right there in front of you and I had this thought with my opening.
Speaker 1:You know I don't always use the same openers, but I've got a few in the arsenal and as I was checking Facebook right before going to this event, I noticed that the memories function, that hey, this person wrote this thing on your wall 10 years ago. I don't think anyone really writes on people's walls anymore. It seems like the list of people that write on your wall happy birthday shrinks and more and more and more every year, especially if you're in the twenties, thirts era. But anyway, the Facebook memory. That day was 10 years ago. My mom wrote on my Facebook wall that exact quote and it was to motivate me as I was going through my freshman year at the Citadel, which is a military college here in Charleston, south Carolina, and that gave me my new opener for this particular talk, because I was talking all about how to build systems that will enable you to accomplish your goals and push past adversities, and the stuff that I'm really most passionate about and where my purpose resides. So I'm opening it with.
Speaker 1:I'm opening this episode with that, because there are a couple awesome things that we're going to cover in this one. One is my winner framework, which has now been introduced in some recent talks and also is a big part of the course that I just released, unshakable Discipline, which is now available, and it is linked in the show notes with a discount code WIN today. So should you want to grab that, after you hear about it, it is there and I first announced that on episode 150. This is now episode 152. But it's all about the course really is all about you know, how do you form unshakable discipline, but, more so, how do you build the systems, the habits, the structure and form the mind to where you are constantly getting out of your own way. You are conquering yourself.
Speaker 1:I interpret this quote from Plato as the first and greatest victory is to conquer yourself. It means that you don't get in your own way. What I find with most people a lot of people in this world, is that they stop themselves more than any other external factor. I believe that in many cases, our greatest enemy is often ourselves, and we're often our greatest critic, which I don't see really too much negative being there, because if you're your own greatest critic, in my view, that simply means that you care, and you care deeply. But we're also our greatest enemy in that we allow our minds to ruminate and create these thoughts that are then perceived as reality, that we can't do. The thing that we are dreaming about, or this thing that is running through your mind right now that you really want, or this career that you really can envision yourself on Maybe that's reserved for somebody else, but not you and the only person that can make that true is you and nobody else else. So, conquering yourself and that's why I started off with that and here are my two things First is my winner framework.
Speaker 1:Now, I developed this winner framework, actually, when I was on a flight to Salt Lake City about a year ago, from next month, about a year ago, from July, so July of 2023, I'm flying to go run a marathon with my girlfriend just outside of Salt Lake City and I'm also going to be on a podcast interview with my good friend and Guinness World Record holder, jen Drummond, and I'm thinking, okay, I've been on a few podcasts before and I believe in what I'm sharing. I know this stuff works as far as goal setting and how to build systems, but what is something that can be easily remembered by somebody other than hey, go write your goals down. And I'm thinking and thinking and thinking on this flight of all the other inspirational speakers that I've listened to authors, what is something that they have that they often bring out in their books or their speeches? And a lot of them have some sort of framework that spells out to a word. And I thought through man, I know there was one back in the day where they had the be like a bumblebee method. I'm thinking, bumblebee, that's a lot, and I don't really think about bumblebees very much. I don't know if a lot of people think about bumblebees very much, and there's all these different words and I couldn't tell you many of them, but I figured what's something easily rememberable?
Speaker 1:Winning winner, because a lot of people want to win in their life. However you define winning, winning doesn't always mean beating somebody else or being the first person to cross the finish line at a race. Winning is however you define it, but I believe that everybody that's living this life wants to live a not a good life, but a great life. And if you're winning a great life, living a great life, you'd probably say, yeah, I'm winning. If you're winning a great life, living a great life, you'd probably say, yeah, I'm winning, so winner. And I figured well, how do I package everything that I know and do into winner and does it even make sense? And it does, which I'm very excited about because it fits into all of the products and the podcast, everything Win Today podcast winner framework. It just fits. So the winner framework and this is something that I apply. Or if I was going to start a new goal or start from scratch to where I'd never done any of this stuff that I talked about before, this is the exact framework that I would follow, or tell someone to follow, so that they can win, however they define it, but ultimately how they can build the system that will enable them to achieve their goals and dreams and live this amazing life that we all get the opportunity to live every day that we have the, every day that we're blessed to wake up.
Speaker 1:So what is it? W? Get in the habit of writing everything down. If you don't do that now, start writing down everything. It gets you in the habit of eliminating guesswork in your life. It gets you in the habit of programming your subconscious mind of the thing that you want to do. It gets you in the habit of, when you see these things that you've written down every day whether it's even your daily to-do list or your goals it gets your mind believing that, hey, you can accomplish that thing.
Speaker 1:Here's what's crazy about the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is responsible for 95% of your reality. Our minds don't recognize the difference between what's real and what's not, so think about that for a second. Our minds are like a magnet and will attract into our lives what you spend the most time focusing on. There is a lot of reality to that. Think about when you've written something down in the past, or when you're having a thought about a certain thing, or even going back to the beginning, having a thought what's a new quote that I can open up with? And boom, open up Facebook. And there it is right there, facebook. And there it is right there. Our thoughts often can become our reality.
Speaker 1:And by writing things down, boom, you're starting to program your mind that, hey, you can do that thing or hey, you've accomplished that thing. Going back to that powerful stat, our minds don't recognize what is real and what's not. So if you wrote down something that you're working towards right now, as if you already have it let's just say I have a podcast that receives millions of downloads and has helped me create multiple passive revenue streams Boom, my mind doesn't know if that is real or not when I'm looking at it on paper. Now, just by writing that down, you still have to. You still get to take action towards that thing. I believe in manifesting with a asterisk that there must be work put into it. You've got to work towards that, but by writing it down again, it's going to push you one step further to actually doing that thing. So get in the habit of writing everything down.
Speaker 1:I believe that winning today actually starts the night before. So a great day today starts the night before when you set the intention on. Here are the one to three things, and I believe less is more. But one to three things, or it can be five. There's no magic number, but keep it low that I'm going to do tomorrow that align to my goals, my dream, my vision.
Speaker 1:Every day, before I go to bed, especially during the week, I'm looking at okay, what am I going to do tomorrow? Looking at the calendar, but then also in the free blocks that are available at times. At times I'm often looking, turning around and looking at my goal board. What's something that I can do that aligns to at least one thing on that goal board, so that when I wake up the next day I'm not scratching my head oh, what am I going to? What am I going to do today? No, I'm not sure. And then that's how people end up in sometimes these doom scrolling events and then getting upset at themselves because there were no priorities, no intention set for that day, because nothing was written or nothing was reflected upon.
Speaker 1:So start rewiring your brain, programming your brain, your subconscious, that, hey, this is what we're going to do today here. Hey, this is what you've already achieved, this is what you're working towards. Imagine the difference going to the grocery store with a list and without a list. You already know what happens with a list versus without a list. To make this very simple to understand. The last thing, which, if you've been listening to this for a long time, you can probably stay this stat that I'm about to say.
Speaker 1:If this is your first time, though, here's something to remember with writing things down, just by writing things down, you're 42% more likely to accomplish it. That is backed by studies. When you share what you're going to do, when you share what you've written down, when you share your goals with a group of people, you increase your odds to 70%. When you share your goals that you've written down to a group of people repeatedly that, hey, I'm going to go do this thing, go do X, y, z, your odds increased to 90%. So think about that. That's why this whole winner framework is first built on getting in the habit of writing everything down, because I believe this is the easiest way to hack life, to reprogram your mind, program your subconscious, that, hey, you can do these things, you have all of the power and you're going to get it done, and it's only a matter of when. It's not a matter of if it becomes a matter of when. Now, getting into the I and really the W and the I are things that I'd say you do at the yes at the very beginning, but when I'm looking at the goals I set now, I'm not always, because, you know, writing is something that is programmed in me.
Speaker 1:And then, secondly I is make sure that your goals, or whatever you're working towards in life, have some sort of meaning applied to it. So the I is identify what is important to you, so don't make a goal or a priority off of something that has no meaning to you. Or, for instance, I love running. Running marathons and ultra marathons is something that is meaningful to me. Fitness is meaningful to me for many reasons. One in particular is I come from a family with a systemic trend of alcoholism. By focusing on fitness, it gets me further and further away from potentially becoming that next person and it gets me moving more towards living a life focused on health and wellness and challenging my body to where. You know, if I do want to succeed in these events, then it's critical that I am investing in my health and wellness, my recovery, my workouts, in my health and wellness, my recovery, my workouts and staying away from boozing and partying and all the things that don't align to that thing. So think about what is truly important to you Now.
Speaker 1:If running meant nothing. Or here's an example of fitness with something that wouldn't really grab me at the heart. You know, if I just made a goal, it said I'm going to go do a 1000 yard swim. Swimming isn't something that is very close to my heart, therefore I'm not going to be as inclined to go after that thing. Or if it was, let's say something along the lines of go and plant 10 trees. Don't get me wrong. I love the environment for any of you, green people, green friends, I love you guys, respect what you do, but that's not the most important thing in the world to me. Therefore, if I wrote that goal down, it wouldn't have some sort of actual meaning to me and I wouldn't be as inclinated to actually go and run towards that thing.
Speaker 1:So some people that I work with and hear from will write down a goal of I want to lose 20 pounds, and I'll often ask them well, what's the significance of that? Is it 20 pounds? Is that seem like a cool number? Or, you know, and as I probe some more, sometimes it leads to. Well, those 20 pounds, will you know, allow me to be more present with my family and go on runs with my kids when they turn three and four and five and six years old. See, now that is something that has some true meaning to it. So identify what is truly important to you in your life before you start putting things on paper and chasing this, create some meaning around what it is that you truly value.
Speaker 1:Now getting into the N, the first one is normalized behaviors and habits. So when we think about whatever it is that you've written down or have identified as important to you, this is really where the engine is and it's around a system, building a system that aligns to that goal or that thing that you're working towards. For instance, years ago I wrote down a goal to read 12 books in a year, and when you break that down, that's a book a month. And if you break that down even further, probably 50 pages, 60 pages a week. If you want to take the whole month, let's just assume a 240-page book and if you break that down even further, then that is less than 10 pages a day and you can easily read a book a month.
Speaker 1:Now, for the longest time I didn't accomplish that goal. It would drive me absolutely crazy. I would get a lot of stuff done in the year, but that was one that didn't get knocked off and I would get upset clear. I recognize that the reason why that goal kept falling to the wayside is because I never built a system around it. I never really aligned my day to being a reader, meaning that, you know, occasionally I'd grab the book and read it for 20 minutes one day, and then maybe not touch it for five, and then read it for five minutes the other day, and then so on and so forth, and then read a few, and then that was that.
Speaker 1:Now, when we think about normalizing behaviors and habits, that really just means make that habit that aligns to that goal a part of who you are. So, for instance, I start to identify as a reader, and what I did was this habit stacking exercise. When you want to build a new habit, the easiest way to build it is by stacking it on top of an existing habit, so something that is already on autopilot for you, something that basically comes as natural as grabbing a towel after you jump out of the shower or, hopefully, brushing your teeth as soon as you get out of bed. You nasties, and so, in this case, reading while working out comes pretty much a second nature, if at the very least I'm going to do some sort of mobility session before I leave the house that I'll have my book near my fitness equipment or by my shoes so that when I finish my workout I've got the book there.
Speaker 1:Now I'm triggering in my brain hey, it's time to read, just like you've triggered in your brain when you turn off the faucet on the shower. It's time to grab a towel, it's on autopilot, you can do it with your eyes closed. So I started doing that and building this trigger, this cue, that all right, now it's time to read after I'd finished my daily workouts. And then I started seeing that, oh, now, if I didn't do that thing, this alarm would go off in my mind that hey, you didn't read. You're basically leaving the house butt naked. You need to get back in there and go and read your book. And so now to this day, I have my devotional right by my desk. At the very least, I'm reading at least a page of that before I get out of the house. I also believe audio books count, so flipping on an audio book. But my mind basically reminds me now that if I don't read in the morning, that something is missing.
Speaker 1:And you get to that point by doing it so many times, that it becomes a part of who you are. When you really want to build a new habit, think about getting it to the point where it's a part of your identity. So, for instance, running and working out it's been done for 15 plus years now. Very early in the morning, that is like second nature. Body is up, even though I'm tired. Sometimes it's the last thing I want to do. My body knows, hey, it's time to go and do some sort of exercise or some sort of stretching, just like it knows when you wake up, it's time to go brush your teeth, time to go and start getting things done, start kicking ass and let's go. So that is the first N.
Speaker 1:Now the second N is notify people. Make sure that there's at least one person in this world that knows what it is that you want to accomplish, or what you want to create or the type of person that you want to become. At least one person needs to know about it. And if this is something that makes you feel uncomfortable, then find a best friend or a family member, but challenge yourself to inform one person. Because, going back to those odds the 42, 70, and 90,. This is how you increase your odds of actually achieving the thing or the things that you want to create. The things that you're seeking to create, the person that you're working to become One person's got to know about it.
Speaker 1:What I like to do is, at the start of every year, I email my goals out, to call it a personal board of directors. These are my who's, people that I trust, people that I asked to spot, check me, to hold me accountable, because now, this whiteboard that I have behind me with all my goals written down, it's not just me that is aware of all the things on there, it's the people that I've reached out to, it's the people actually listening to this podcast. This is another reason. This is another rather method for me to help build and create accountability is by telling you guys, hey, here's what's coming and here's when it's coming. That was that episode 150. I mentioned that the Unshakable Discipline course was going to be ready in June. Here it is, the links in the show notes. It helps me to actually take more action on these things, because I value being a person of my word and executing on the things I say that I'm going to do so by informing a group of people, or at least one person. It gets me moving closer to that goal and ensuring that I'm doing my best to align my habits, structure my day, in a manner that will enable that thing or those things to occur. So here we are now with the course and we get to start that adventure.
Speaker 1:Now the E is eradicate limiting beliefs and language. At first I had it as eliminate, but I don't believe that's strong enough. Eradicate limiting beliefs and language. This is probably the area that I see people stumble the most. You know the first few with starting to write things down, identifying what's important and building the system. I would say that those are now. I don't believe it's the easiest thing in the world, but it's. Those are the simplest steps. I believe. Now, the things that we tell ourselves, the language that we create think about this for a second Language is the creator of all things, and Language is really the creator of all things. So sometimes people can undermine the things that they tell themselves and think language is the creator of all things. And that applies to what I speak out to others yes, and what you speak to yourself, and the words, the phrases that you use to promote or not promote action, and we won't dive into everything in this pod.
Speaker 1:There's things that are in the modules, but here's one word and one phrase to eradicate immediately. This is one. I actually hate this word. I hate the word try, because it is giving yourself an option to do the thing that you say is most important to your life, to your success, to your future. Think about this for a minute, when and going back to subconscious mind and the stat we mentioned in the beginning, when you say I'm going to try to work out tomorrow because it's the one I hear the most I'm going to try to work out tomorrow, what you're telling your mind is. You know what mind? Yeah, we can work out tomorrow if we're feeling it, but if not, you know we don't have to. It's optional. Versus saying I'm going to work out tomorrow, now your mind believes that, hey, we've got to work out, we're going to get it done and we're further increasing our chances, our odds, that that activity is actually going to occur.
Speaker 1:Also, when we look at this in the professional space and even in the personal world, you know, looking at friends, or you know people that you may take interest in, or you know professional partners. You know as I'm, this. That's something that I look for when I'm hiring people now is what type of language do they create around the their future and the people that say, well, I'm going to try to do this and my plan is to try to, in five years, be in this spot it's those are the people that I'm least likely to hire in a role, because it's their future, is optional and there's no confidence. When there's no confidence around the word try versus hey, in five years, my plan is to be at XYZ and here's how I'm going to do it. Now, that second person might not ever achieve what they just said, but they've not made it an option to themselves.
Speaker 1:Sometimes, the things we say we're going to do I'm going to qualify for the Boston Marathon. That ended up taking me six years, but it was never. Hey, I'm going to try to get there. I'm going to try to be able to get fast enough. So when we think about a word that stops people, it is try. When we think about a word that crushes confidence, meaning what others may perceive of you as a confident person or not confident person it is the word try. It took a long time to wire that one out, and this may Actually no, I don't care if it sounds harsh, this is the truth. This is a word that promotes zero forward progress.
Speaker 1:Now, the phrase to replace your a phrase to replace and eradicate rather is have to, have to, have to and need to, but we'll focus on have to. Here's the other thing that we hear a lot of I have to go to the gym tomorrow. I have to wake up early tomorrow, I have to go to work tomorrow. There is somebody in this world that would love to have your biggest we'll call it problem, because sometimes, when these things are communicated I have to go to work tomorrow it's almost like if that's a problem. There is somebody in this world that would love nothing more than to have your biggest quote problem. How about when? And also when we say these things, I have to do this, I need to do that that promotes a scarcity mindset versus hey, I get to go to work tomorrow, I get to wake up early tomorrow, I get to be here recording this podcast, even though I have a few more things that I get to do that are going to keep me up tonight.
Speaker 1:Think about the difference there. One comes across positively, the other one comes across promoting scarcity. And what happens when we are, when we believe there's scarcity? What happens when resources are lacking? We become stressed. We then become, in some cases, anxious. We start operating out of a stressed mindset scarcity mindset, anxious mindset. So this is another one Confident and not so confident or powerful and versus killer. Hey, you get to wake up early tomorrow. You get to go to work tomorrow. You get to go work out tomorrow. Something doesn't go your way. I've had many times where I've even on this podcast, where the recordings and God forbid, hopefully this doesn't happen with this one where they completely go south and file gets deleted, whatever, and you know what, guess what I would get to record this again and make it even better. It's another opportunity. So eradicate limiting beliefs and language.
Speaker 1:Now, to wrap this all up, I mentioned that you know, with the exception of the W and the I, with systems and notifying people and focusing on powerful language. This is something that, even though I said it here, it doesn't mean that it doesn't still continue to get worked on. These are things that you know when you put it on repeat, so the R is repeat, repeat, repeat. When you keep doing these things, guys, this is what will again just create the greatest odds for your success, create the greatest odds for you winning as you define it, and keep you on a positive path and in a more elevated state than if you don't do these things, if you don't write things down, if you don't tell people about it, if you don't focus on the habits and the systems, if you don't focus on the language that you put out in the world and the language, the things that you're telling yourself, the language that you put out in the world and the language, the things that you're telling yourself. This is the framework is intended to, I say, hack life and put the odds in your favor.
Speaker 1:Now, what this doesn't account for are unforeseen circumstances. This doesn't account for things that you would never predict, and while I believe that this will make you unshakable, meaning that with this framework, it doesn't matter what gets in the way, it's never a matter of if, it's simply a matter of when. I can't predict for you or even myself, hey, here's what might get in the way. That's the beauty of this life that we get to live. But what I do know, after 13 years of this work and continuing, is that by adopting this mindset, this framework, you will be far more likely to do anything that you want. The only person that could stop you is you.
Speaker 1:And this gets me into the course Unshakable Discipline. This is the first of likely many courses that I will create, and this is something that was moving me closer towards this ultimate dream and vision that I have in life, and that's that, you know, on a full-time basis, I get to go and travel the country, travel the world, inspiring people with with my keynotes, growing this podcast and continuing to have some of the most disciplined, heartwarming, inspiring people in the world, and then also creating a community where I can continuously share these resources, coach people, pour my heart in there, because everything that I'm putting out here I'm studying all the time and learning new tricks of the trade, being really focusing on, really obsessing over all of this work. My dream is that you know this will create this massive community of people that are coming in day in, day out, month in, month out, and they want their lives to be structured. They want to hack life and ultimately embody this framework and this way of being. Really, this is about a process of becoming. It's not this thing where I say, hey, here's how you can build unshakable discipline. Really, it's here's how you can become unshakable discipline and really make this a part of who you are like it's second nature.
Speaker 1:So the course is broken out into five modules and there's 18 videos in there right now. It's all self-guided. I'm going to continue adding to this and again, this will likely branch off into additional courses. But the five modules are broken down into each of the steps that align to the winner framework really. But that first module being how to first identify what is most important to you in this life and really get clear on what it is that you want and there's supporting documents, things that you can fill out for that and in addition to that you know. Going from that module, then you go into clearing the roadblocks that you may have mentally right now, clearing the path for yourself, identifying the limiting beliefs that you do have right now or you may have, and then, once we do those two things, then we get into the goal setting portion. Here's actually how to set up goals, here's how to construct your goal board, here's how to ensure that you build a system that aligns to your goals, and really that's where the meat is in that fourth module. And then the fifth module is where we deep dive into limiting beliefs and language and learn all about powerful language.
Speaker 1:So this is me taking all of the years of work, plus years of having conversations with some of these people all over the world. That's really what has been thrown into this course. There will be challenges that are thrown in there as well. There'll be a mastermind community that's getting built off of this, so people have the opportunity to either buy the course or buy the course and jump into the mastermind. A lot is coming from this and I know and I understand that this one course while I've got my eyes closed and envision that, yeah, it's going to bring in millions and have people from all over the world and it will it may not be right on this first go, and that's another thing you've got to recognize. Sometimes people will put in a lot of effort towards something and have this great vision, desire that, all right, it's going to be the biggest hit in the world and I wish that it is and want it to be. But oftentimes even some of the greatest success stories we see and hear and read about today, it's usually on the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh go where they finally figure it out and they finally just boom, it's hitting this podcast.
Speaker 1:This is episode 152. And I remember the first few and God bless you if you've listened to those ones. I was like, you know, going back whoa, who the heck is this guy? And now it's at the point where you know the vast majority of guests are reaching out to me and people from all over the world are reaching out. It takes time and you learn little tricks of the trade that can speed things up, but I believe the beauty is really in the process, guys.
